Epic News

Ok this is about a week late. But it is still BIG NEWS!
Disney announced that Daft Punk is doing the sound track to the new Tron 2.0 movie. So why is this big news you ask. Only because Tron is one of my all time favorite movies and Daft Punk is one of my favorite groups. So with how epic this movie is going to be already this news means that it just got better. I don't know if I can wait. I am going to have to do some major internet searching for leaked tracks. I already have the samples downloaded from the website. Go check it out here.

Words I Live By...

“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.”

-Thomas Edward Lawrence

"Daydreams are the light of Guidance."

"You just have to focus on something so hard, and then believe that it's possible, then it will happen."

We have 2 courses by our work and one is only a three minute drive away. Today was the first day of warm ups. But on friday we are going to have a real lunch time tournament with teams and or solo. I played 9 holes today at lunch with Jomar and we are already looking good and should be killing it by friday.

Weekend Updates

Well I guess you can say I am finally all moved in. Yes I have been in my new place for a few months but this weekend I finally hung my surf racks and moved all my boards from the garage floor to the racks. For most people this may seem like just cleaning the garage but for me it is a sign of settling in. I guess you could relate it to unpacking the last box from a move. So now my ladies are all set in their homes ready to be plucked at a moments notice to head to the beach.

Next was Roller Disco. My friend Kevin and I headed up to LA on saturday night to go to this roller disco birthday party. Something you may not now about me is that I love quad skating. It is such a good work out and you meet some real interesting people out on the rink. This place being so close to west hollywood had some REAL interesting people at it but it was still good fun. I would have to say the best part about this rink is the ramp that you get to skate down to get to the rink and then the rink is really nice hard wood. Next weekend they are having a Roller Jam with DJ battling and skate offs, just might have to attend.

And last we can not forget about:
Friday After Work Surf Session
Once again after work I headed down to the beach for some evening glass off and waves at San O. This make 3 weeks in a row I am starting to make new friends out in the line up and becoming a local. I just love summer in cali and more important surfing. I dont think I could ever move away from the ocean it is just to much apart of me.

Star Tours

Tonight is one of those happy sad nights, as of monday Star Tours at Disneyland will be closing. But not to worry its not for good. They are just closing it to give it a face lift and should be reopened in a few months. So in honor of it I headed down to Disneyland after work for one last trip into space with Rex our favorite bumbling pilot droid (who we cant forget has the voice of Pee Wee Herman).

Now what you may or may not know is that I was also at the Grand Opening of the ride back in 1987 when the park stayed open for 60 straight hours. And that this ride has always had a special place in my heart. With everything from jumping over the rail to take a photo with one of the droids, to faking that I had my seat belt on and then falling a whole row forward in the middle of the ride. So I am sad to see it go but... I am really looking forward to the new face lift and hope it brings me even more memories. Enjoy the photos and the video of the whole ride that I took tonight.

Arcade Fire

I love having friends in the music industry. Today I got my hands on the new Arcade Fire album The Suburbs. Almost 3 weeks before its release date. I have listen to it about 3 times today. It has what I feel is this new kind of sound to it, but yet still has the Arcade we all love. But you can hear how the band is growing their sound. I recommend it to everyone once it comes out.

My all time favorite song from them is "Wake Up". The lyrics are just so powerful. It just makes me want to run and never look back and enjoy everything I have and everything around me.

Somethin' filled up
my heart with nothin',
someone told me not to cry.

But now that I'm older,
my heart's colder,
and I can see that it's a lie.

Children wake up,
hold your mistake up,
before they turn the summer into dust.

If the children don't grow up,
our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up.
We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms turnin' every good thing to

I guess we'll just have to adjust.

With my lightnin' bolts a glowin'
I can see where I am goin' to be
when the reaper he reaches and touches my hand.

With my lightnin' bolts a glowin'
I can see where I am goin’
With my lightnin' bolts a glowin'
I can see where I am, go-go, where I am

You'd better look out below

Sumer Time!!!

Finally! It's summer June gloom is over and the days are hot and ocean is warming up.

Or as the Fresh Prince would say
"The weather is hot and girls are dressing less and checking out the fellas to tell 'em who's best"

This weekend was a great weekend. I started it out by leaving work early on Friday and heading down to the beach for a little sunset surf session. I went to this place called Old Mans. It's a long board place but with the right short board it is very rip able. Here is what I used.

When I was out in the water I ran into some friends from work (guess I wasn't the only one with this idea). I surfed until dark and then headed over to a BBQ on the beach that some singles where having. So on Saturday guess what I did? Yep you guessed it surfing. I left about seven and went down to Newps for a surf until black ball was posted. After that I just hung out and bodied surf and swam in the ocean. I surfed so much my ribs hurt. Later that night me and Kevin and a few other went out dancing, besides the crap the DJ was spinning it was a good time. I hope this is a sign of a great summer to come.

I Imagine Dragons

Tonight I got a few friends of mine to head up to LA to a little venue call The Viper Room. This is a great place to see bands cause it is small and personal. Tonight I really wanted to go because a little band I know called Imagine Dragons was playing. They are a small band that I got turned onto about 4 years ago. They are out of Vegas and kind of sound like a more edgy Killers. They are also all mormon besides the bass player. But anyways I have seen them before and look forward to seeing them again. Because they are getting better and better each time. I am going to say that some day I will have to pay big buck to see them front row but for now I like the free shows. After the show I was hung out and rapped with Dan Reynolds the lead signer from the band. Just about working with them and how good the show was. He is a really cool guy, we traded info and look forward to maybe working with them in the future. Anyways you should go check them out download their albums from iTunes you will not be disappointed.

Today is a Big Day

Today is a day for the books. Three great things are going down today. All of them don't happen all that often and one of them has never happen and may never happen again.

World Cup Finals between Netherlands and Spain
Spain has never made it to the finals ever (fyi this is my team). Netherlands has never won and has not been to the finals since 1978. So needless to say its going to be an amazing game. Oh can't forget the octopus has chosen Spain to win.

Its Free SLURPEE Day! Every July 7th. I got mine last night at 2 am on my way home and will most likely go get another one later today.

Today we are having a total eclipse of the sun. You need to be out in the Pacific Ocean to see it. Easter Island is the best place to see it. The next one will not happen again until 2012.

So enjoy this day in history.

Every Dog Has Its Day

Yesterday between soccer and weddings me and my friend headed over to the Los Alamitos Race Course to be a part of the 15th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals.
aka The Wiener Dog races
If you have never been to a wiener dog race you need to go. For a number of reasons, one is just the fact that you get to see over 100 wiener dogs in one place. Also for all the sites, people love to dress up their wiener dogs so you will always see high doggie fashion on tap. Can't forget getting to hang out with America's Most Wanted Hot Dog "Hot Dog Man".
All in all it was fun looking forward to next year.

Why Never To Ask Favors From The Designers

So this came my way today and I just had to share this with everyone. I am sorry but this is very funny to me for many of reasons. One seeing I am a designer and have got this question before and two I don't really care for cats that much cause most of them make my eyes itch. But also this is very sad at the same time. I hope you enjoy.

(Sorry Elise if this hurts your feelings in advance)

Story goes :

Shannon (the secretary) has lost her cat and has asked David (the graphic designer) to help with a lost poster. This is their email correspondence...

I opened the screen door yesterday and my cat got out and has been missing since then so I was wondering if you are not to busy you could make a poster for me. It has to be A4 and I will photocopy it and put it around my suburb this afternoon.

This is the only photo of her I have she answers to the name Missy and is black and white and about 8 months old. missing on Harper street and my phone number.
Thanks Shan.

Dear Shannon,
That is shocking news.
Although I have two clients expecting completed work this afternoon, I will, of course, drop everything and do whatever it takes to facilitate the speedy return of Missy.

Thats just stupid. Can you do it properly please? I am extremely emotional over this and was up all night in tears. you seem to think it is funny. Can you make the photo bigger please and fix the text and do it in colour please. Thanks.

Dear Shannon,
Having worked with designers for a few years now, I would have assumed you understood, despite our vague suggestions otherwise, we do not welcome constructive criticism. I don't come downstairs and tell you how to send text messages, log onto Facebook and look out of the window. I have amended and attached the poster as per your instructions.

This is worse than the other one. can you make it so it shows the whole photo of Missy and delete the stupid text that says missing missy off it? I just want it to say Lost.

Dear Shannon,
I don't have a cat. I once agreed to look after a friend's cat for a week but after he dropped it off at my apartment and explained the concept of kitty litter. I have attached the amended version of your poster as per your detailed instructions.

I know, but that one is cute. As Missy has quite possibly met any one of several violent ends, it is possible you might get a better cat out of this. If anybody calls and says "I haven't seen your orange cat but I did find a black and white one with its hind legs run over by a car, do you want it?" you can politely decline and save yourself a costly veterinarian bill.

We just had a 5.7 earthquake. And let me tell you where you don't want to be. You DO NOT want to be in a chair next to 40 feet of pallets. OH by the way see that chair. I just happen to be sitting in it when the earthquake hit. Didn't I just say it is where you dont want to be. It is the first time in my life I have been scared of an earthquake, most of the time I don't even get up from where ever I am at. Just so you don't get scared. I got away with out a scratch. Did you?

3rd, 4th and 5th of July

Wow what an AMAZING weekend! So much to do in so little time.
This had to be one of the best 4th's ever. It had the makings of it from the start. It all started on Friday with getting off work early. Then heading down to San Diego to go dancing with some ladies on a boat. After that came surfing on Saturday. It wasn't to great but I knew what was on tap for Monday so it didn't bum me out at all. Then comes the best day, Sunday the 4th of July.
It started out like any other Sunday wake up late, go to church and then it got interesting. After church head over to my second families home for some YUMMY ribs and chicken with all the fixings. After that we headed down the street to the our good friends the Shield's for another BBQ and to get the 4th really started.
Now let me tell you something about this neighborhood. I have been lighting off fireworks here for almost 12 years. And every year it gets better. But this year was by far the best.
Who know why but for some reason they were not on patrol this year. And it showed, now every year it seem about every other house or so has the really good fireworks. But this year it seemed like EVERY house had them. Watch the video to get the full idea of the war zone it was.

Now its not just about the fireworks here, its also about the block party. On one side its a Biker Gang next to them is a DJ playing tunes all night for the whole street. Then we also have these kids a few doors down putting on a rock show and everyone just hanging out being friends.
After the fireworks me and Kevin headed over to this girl's house for some midnight hot tubbing and cookies.

Next comes Monday and the BIG surf. This swell had been on tap for almost a week and everyone was frothing at the mouth for it to get here. It was going to be 8 to 10 feet almost every where. I started at 38th street in Newport and then moved my way down to the Point. For some tube time. After that I headed down to the wedge to watch some people get slammed for a bit (see photo above).

Next I met up with some friends for lunch and then off to the Happiest Place On Earth. To ride some rides and watch some more fireworks. It was a great way to end the perfect long 4th of July weekend. Hope you had a good time also.
